Curiosity? A defining principle of how I live

Daily writing prompt
What principles define how you live?

In considering how I live, I find my motivation rooted in communication practices, as I think the most important experiences are how we connect with people. I try to maintain a strong curiosity for the world around me, whether I am in a familiar or new place. In my mind, curiosity is the desire to learn and engage with a variety of ideas and I build on that principle by finding connections between them.

The most important experiences are how we connect with people

There is an inherent curiosity in most people and I find that demonstrating curiosity, whether through listening, eye contact, or any general sense of attention, can spark an interest in someone else’s mind.

Sometimes leading by example is the best thing we can do to help awaken that sense in someone else. If you move through the world with an open mind, you can experience more and learn more overall. If you give yourself rigid boundaries about what you can and cannot experience, you curb that child-like naïveté that grounds the self in imagination.

Communication makes the world go round; whether it is verbal, non-verbal, direct or indirect, the ability to convey meaning between people or groups can deeply affect the culture and the world around us. Being curious and open to it all has led me to places I had never even dreamed of, people I have yet to meet, and so much left to be written.
