Morning Maxims: Coffee is my vice, but its ritualistic

Daily writing prompt
What things give you energy?

Attend to the morning, and it will attend to you. Rising with intention is difficult to do, I can attest. As I write this, I still struggle to make my mornings free of our modern vices. Instant espresso from a Nespresso, endlessly scrolling on social media before work, preoccupation after preoccupation because our phones give us a sense of control over what takes up our attention, although a sense can be illusory.

Aesthetic is the occupation, and the ritual is our rite of passage. I want to be someone who drinks coffee in the morning, so my ritual reflects that. I clamber out of bed for that first sip, in the hopes that it will distract me enough from my phone, so that I might step into my day and out of my head.

So what gives me energy? Challenging my routine, my ritual, to create enough friction so that a match could be lit, if needed. The hardest parts of change come from our daily habits and routine, but once that cycle is broken there is new energy to put towards a new habit. Perhaps a healthier one not overly rooted in consumption of media or caffeine.
